A safe and effective option in the treatment of VUR
|
For years the parents of children suffering from VUR had two options: years of giving their child antibiotics every day, or open surgery with risk of complications and days in the hospital. Today, there is a third option. Endoscopic treatment with DEFLUX.
Endoscopic injection of DEFLUX is quick, safe, highly effective and provides immediate results. Both constituents of DEFLUX are biocompatible,1, 2 which means that they do not cause significant reactions within the body. In fact, DEFLUX is made of sugar-based molecules. And the procedure causes minimal disruption to the family. As a relatively quick outpatient procedure, your child can usually be back at school, or participating in other activities, the day after the procedure.
In a study where parents were explained all treatment options for their child’s VUR, nearly 80% of parents preferred treatment with DEFLUX over prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis or open surgey.3
It is important that the parents of children with VUR are fully informed about the treatment options available for their children, the likely outcome, and any associated risks. Parents should be encouraged to contribute to the decision-making process so that they feel comfortable with the treatment choice.
